Who - Open to friends and family of the Hollingshead brothers. We are always looking for new recipes to discover new and unique tastes (new, traditional, exotic, etc) that we've all come to enjoy over the years . Wings are not required, as we have a number of folks that wish to share their favorite recipes involving other food types.
What - A veritable plethora of taste diversity that races your palate along the continuum of culinary excellence.
When - Saturday, June 15th, 10AM till we say it's over. Some of our guests have mentioned they arrived too late. The event tends to peak around 1pm, so don't be late!!
Where - Julius M. Kleiner Park (Fairview & Eagle Rd) will be the venue for this year's event. Enter the park at the Records St traffic light off Fairview across from Walmart and Sportsman's Warehouse. Drive North on Records through the first roundabout taking the second outlet, turn right and proceed under the main arch, and through the second roundabout taking the second outlet. The A-1 shelter and field area hosting the event is on the right, with parking on the left. Loading zone is located just past the shelter. Vehicles with equipment can stop here temporarily while you drop gear and we load up ATV trailers to haul items to the field location.
Why - Cause we said so. Actually, what started as sibling rivalry has grown over the years, and is a way for the cooks and supporting folks to give something back to our friends and family while giving something back to our local charity organization, engage in a little smack-talk, and share the greatest wing recipes of all time. Bring what you can to contribute, a blanket, shade canopy, a cooler (no glass), and spend the day with us. Seriously, pack it up and join us!!
How - In the summer of 2001 the Hollingshead brothers decided to clear up who had the best hot wing recipe via an informal backyard patio grilling contest. The eldest brother Curtis (a.k.a. Tortus, H1, etc...) clearly schooled his younger siblings in the fine art of chicken wings. Since that time, our family, close friends, distant friends, and complete strangers (now new friends), have grown this event each year into a taste sensation you don't want to miss.
How much - Donations of $15 per person are encouraged to help cover costs and contribute to the Kiwanis Hope Tree program benefiting local Meridian children at Christmas, thank you.
Rules - There is no cost to enter the inner Wing Master sanctum and cook up your favorite recipe. Whether you cook wings or not, bring your favorite recipe and join the action.
There are however a few basic park rules-
No glass bottles, containers, etc allowed in the park. Plastic containers only.
Pets are welcome however clean up is the owner's responsibility, so plan ahead.
A "pack it in, pack it out" mentality is required to keep the park clean
Alcohol is permitted (plastic or cans only)
Music provided.
If you choose to bring sporting equipment (volleyball, soccer ball, frisbee, football, etc...) to entertain your crew and others, please be considerate and ensure activities are a safe distance away from the grills and other guests.
